Independent Steel was founded in 1995 by husband and wife team Shane Jamison and Robin McKay.
Shane could see a need for a steel supplier that would not only sell you a bulk pack of steel, but one that was also willing to help you when you needed only a small piece. As Shane puts it “we guarantee the same dependable service regardless of the size of the order”.
As the business continued to develop, Mackay Scrap and Steel became the Independent Steel Warehouse and in 1997 expanded to its current larger location.
Additional staff and machinery followed that allowed Independent Steel to fill a need for their customers of not only selling them the steel but to also cut, punch and weld it for them.
Over the past nine years this same philosophy of listening to their customers and solving their problems, has seen Independent Steel expand its stock, its staff and its continual ability to meet its customer’s needs.
Through hard work and dedication, Independent Steel has grown from humble beginnings into a thriving business with solid foundations. But as Shane always said, “from small seeds big trees grow”.
